Tour Destinations: The Best of East Java

Itinerary: Your 10-Day Grand Tour

Day 1: Majapahit Heritage and Mountain Retreat

Your journey begins at 9:00 a.m. with a comprehensive briefing where you’ll meet your fellow travelers and learn about the tour itinerary. At 10:00 a.m., we’ll depart from Surabaya for a two-hour drive to Trowulan, the historical capital of the Majapahit Kingdom. You’ll spend the day exploring temples, public baths, and museums, immersing yourself in the history of one of the most successful empires in Nusantara. We’ll depart at 3:00 p.m. and head to Tretes for a relaxing overnight stay. Dinner will be served, and you’ll settle into your villa for the night.

Day 2: Trekking to a Hidden Lagoon

At 4:00 a.m., we’ll begin our four-hour trip to Sempu Island in Malang. We’ll arrive at Sendang Biru beach at 9:00 a.m., where we’ll have breakfast before crossing to the island by local fisherman’s boat. A 1.5-hour trek through the lush tropical jungle will lead us to the hidden Segoro Anakan lagoon. We’ll spend time swimming and enjoying the beautiful scenery before returning at 1:00 p.m. After lunch, we’ll continue to the beautiful Goa Cina Beach to watch the sunset. We’ll then head to our hotel in Malang for the night.

Day 3: Hot Springs and a Legendary Waterfall

We’ll start the day at 6:00 a.m. with a trip to the Cangar Hot Springs in Batu Regency. A one-hour drive from Malang, the hot springs are perfect for relaxing tired muscles. At 10:00 a.m., we’ll depart for Probolinggo to visit the legendary Madakaripura Waterfall, believed to be a meditation site for Gajah Mada. The trek to the waterfall is an adventure in itself, leading you through a beautiful river valley. Afterward, we’ll drive to a hotel on the slopes of Mount Bromo for a good night’s rest.

Day 4: Mount Bromo Sunrise and Papuma Beach

The adventure begins at 2:00 a.m. with a 4×4 hardtop vehicle to explore Mount Bromo. We’ll head to Penanjakan to witness the unforgettable sunrise over the sea of sand and the cluster of volcanoes. Afterward, we’ll explore the Bromo crater, the vast savanna, and the unique Whispering Sand. We’ll finish by 11:00 a.m. and return to the hotel for a rest before departing for Papuma Beach in Jember at noon. The 3.5-hour drive will bring us to the beach in time to enjoy the sunset. We’ll have a barbecue on the beach and stay overnight at a local homestay.

Day 5: Alas Purwo National Park

We’ll wake up early at 5:00 a.m. to enjoy the sunrise at Papuma Beach before heading to Alas Purwo National Park in Banyuwangi at 8:00 a.m. After a four-hour drive, we’ll arrive at Bedul Beach and cross a small strait by boat. We’ll rent bicycles to explore the forest and visit the Ngagelan turtle conservation area. We’ll return to Bedul Beach in the afternoon to watch the sunset before heading to our homestay in Kendal Rejo village.

Day 6: G-Land and Sadengan Savanna

Today we continue exploring Alas Purwo. We’ll drive two hours to the main gate to visit the holy Hindu temple Puri Luhur Giri Salaka, Pancur Beach, Istana Cave, and the famous Plengkung Beach, a world-class surfing spot. We’ll also visit Sadengan, a natural savanna home to Javan bulls, peacocks, and other wild animals. We’ll return to our homestay in Kendal Rejo village for dinner and rest.

Day 7: The Road to Ijen Crater

After breakfast, we’ll continue our journey to the city of Banyuwangi and then to a hotel on the slopes of Mount Ijen. We’ll spend the day relaxing and preparing for our midnight hike to the Ijen Crater. This rest is crucial for the early morning trek ahead.

Day 8: Ijen’s Blue Fire and Baluran National Park

We’ll begin our midnight hike to the Ijen Crater at 1:00 a.m. to witness the world-famous “blue fire” phenomenon. We’ll also meet the traditional sulfur miners who work the volcano. After sunrise, we’ll have breakfast and continue our trip to Baluran National Park. We’ll drive for about four hours to reach the park, where we’ll explore the Bekol and Bama savannas, home to wild animals like deer and Javan bulls. We’ll check into a homestay on Bama beach and enjoy the sunset.

Day 9: Bama Beach and Pasir Putih

Wake up at 5:00 a.m. to enjoy the sunrise at Bama Beach. We’ll go birdwatching in the savanna and you can swim and snorkel in the clear waters. At 10:00 a.m., we’ll leave Baluran and continue to Pasir Putih Beach in Situbondo. You can relax, sunbathe, or snorkel here. At 4:00 p.m., we will begin our return trip to Surabaya, where we will check into a hotel and have dinner.

Day 10: Surabaya City Tour and Departure

On our final day, we will enjoy a Surabaya City Tour starting at 7:00 a.m. We’ll visit interesting places like the Submarine Museum, Heroes Monument, House of Sampoerna, and the Suramadu Bridge, all while savoring Surabaya’s delicious culinary scene. The Grand Tour of East Java 10D9N will officially conclude at 3:00 p.m.
