Explore Ijen Crater and Baluran National Park: A 3-Day Journey into East Java’s Wild Heart

Are you ready for an adventure that combines the surreal, the wild, and the breathtaking? Our “Explore Ijen Crater and Baluran National Park” regular trip event is your perfect opportunity to witness two of East Java’s most extraordinary natural wonders. This isn’t just a tour; it’s a deep dive into an otherworldly landscape and a chance to experience a true safari on the most densely populated island on Earth.
From the mesmerizing blue fire of Ijen Crater to the vast savannas of Baluran National Park, this journey promises a unique blend of geological marvels and diverse wildlife. You’ll move from the sulfurous, volcanic peaks of Ijen to the serene coastal beauty of Baluran, all within a compact and exciting 3-day itinerary.
Baluran National Park: The Little Africa of Java
Before we dive into the itinerary, let’s set the stage. Java might be known for its crowded cities, but on this island, you can still find expansive savannas, grasslands, and dense forests. One of the best examples is Baluran National Park. Here, you’ll be treated to a landscape so similar to Africa that it has earned the nickname “The Little Africa of Java.”
Located in the Banyuputih District of Situbondo, East Java, the park is easily accessible via the northern coastal highway connecting Java and Bali. Its entrance is right on the roadside, making it simple to find. The park is a representative of a specific dry forest ecosystem on Java, with approximately 40% of its area dominated by savanna vegetation. This vast grassland, supported by fertile alluvial and volcanic soil, provides a rich source of food for a variety of grazing animals. The park’s diverse ecosystem also includes mangrove forests, monsoon forests, beach forests, and evergreen forests, which ensures a rich habitat for a wide array of wildlife.
Ijen Crater: A Volcanic Marvel
On the other end of the spectrum is Ijen Crater, a destination of raw, geological power. It’s a volcano renowned for two incredible phenomena: its stunning, turquoise acidic lake and the mythical “blue fire”. The blue fire is a rare natural spectacle caused by the ignition of sulfuric gas that emerges from cracks in the volcano at extremely high temperatures. While it’s best seen at night, the crater itself is a magnificent sight at any time of day, with the largest acidic lake in the world sitting at its core.
The journey to Ijen is a trek, a physical challenge that rewards you with an experience unlike any other. The cold, sulfurous air, the sight of traditional sulfur miners at work, and the panoramic views from the crater rim make for a truly unforgettable adventure.

Pendakian ke kawah ijen kurang lebih 3 jam, dan jalur pendakiannya bagus walaupun musim hujan, karena memang jalur pendakiannya kan digunakan oleh penambang belerang tradisional setiap hari.
