Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from Surabaya. According to local lore, this was the meditation spot of Prime Minister Gajah Mada of the Majapahit Kingdom, a figure central to Indonesian history who is said to have united the archipelago. The waterfall’s seclusion served as a perfect place for him to seek spiritual tranquility after a period of exile. The sheer magnificence of Madakaripura is truly humbling, with five majestic waterfalls cascading in one location. The grandest of these reaches a staggering height of 250 meters, a powerful spectacle of nature’s force and beauty. The towering cliffs create a natural amphitheater, and the constant spray of water feels like a refreshing mist, a perfect reward after the trek.
In the late afternoon, we will leave the awe-inspiring Madakaripura and continue our journey to Ngadisari village, nestled at the foot of Mount Bromo. Here, you will check in to a comfortable hotel for an overnight stay. Dinner will be served at the hotel, allowing you to refuel and relax before the exciting early morning ahead. The remainder of the evening is yours to rest and prepare for the next day’s unforgettable exploration of Bromo.
Day 2: Bromo’s Volcanic Wonders and the Serenity of Ranu Kumbolo
Day two is the heart of your Explore Trip Waterfall Madakaripura – Bromo and Ranu Kumbolo 3D2N. We will start well before dawn, at 2:00 AM, to begin our Mount Bromo exploration. A private off-road vehicle (4WD) known as a “hardtop” will take you to the first and most iconic spot: Penanjakan. After soaking in the sunrise, we will descend to the “Sea of Sand,” also known as Pasir Berbisik (Whispering Sand). The quietness here is profound, broken only by the whispers of the wind, making it a unique and introspective experience.

This is also the point where vehicles can go no further. At approximately 11:00 AM, after a quick administrative process for trekking permits, we will begin our trek to Ranu Kumbolo. The trek to the lake is a challenging but incredibly rewarding 4-5 hour hike through beautiful scenery. You’ll pass through a mix of gentle slopes and more challenging terrains, all while surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
Upon arrival at Ranu Kumbolo, we will set up our tents and prepare a campfire. The lake is nestled in a valley, and temperatures at night can drop significantly, reaching 3-5 degrees Celsius. The cool, crisp air and the tranquility of the surroundings make for a perfect camping experience under a sky full of stars. Warm clothing is an absolute necessity here, so be sure to pack it.
Day 3: The Spectacular Sunrise of Ranu Kumbolo and Return to Surabaya
Day three begins with one of the most anticipated moments of the trek: the sunrise at Ranu Kumbolo. As the sun rises, its first rays of light kiss the earth and reflect off the lake’s still surface, creating a magical glow. We will have lunch upon arrival back at Ranu Pane.
Still in our off-road vehicle, we will head back to the transit location at the foot of Mount Bromo. After a well-deserved rest and a chance to freshen up, we will begin our drive back to Surabaya at 4:00 PM.
