Explore Mt. Bromo and Ijen Crater: An Unforgettable East Java Adventure

Are you searching for an adventure that combines the surreal landscapes of an active volcano with the magic of a rare natural phenomenon? Our regular trip event to explore Mt. Bromo and Ijen Crater is designed to give you just that. This tour is a perfect blend of high-altitude thrills, stunning scenery, and unforgettable moments, all packed into a thrilling three-day, two-night journey through East Java.

Mount Bromo and Ijen Crater are two of Indonesia’s most iconic natural wonders. While both are volcanoes, they each offer a distinct and spectacular experience. Mount Bromo is famous for its vast “sea of sand,” dramatic caldera, and legendary sunrise views. Ijen Crater, on the other hand, captivates visitors with its mysterious blue fire phenomenon and the world’s largest acidic crater lake. This trip allows you to witness the best of both worlds, from the powerful majesty of Bromo to the ethereal beauty of Ijen.

Day 1: The Journey to Bromo’s Majesty

Your adventure begins in the evening at our designated meeting point at Jatim Expo in Surabaya. After a quick briefing, we’ll begin our 3-hour journey to Sukapura village, the gateway to Mount Bromo. We’ll travel through the night, making sure we arrive in time to witness one of the most famous sunrises in the world. The cool night air and the excitement of the journey will build anticipation for the spectacular scenes to come.

Upon arrival at Sukapura, we’ll take a brief rest before boarding an off-road vehicle, known as a Hardtop Jeep, which is specially designed to handle the rugged terrain of the national park. The Jeep will take us to the famous viewpoint of Penanjakan, the highest and best spot to watch the sunrise. From here, you’ll be at a vantage point high above the clouds, ready for the main event.

As the sun begins to rise, you’ll witness a magical moment. The first rays of light will slowly illuminate the entire volcanic landscape, revealing the silhouettes of Mount Bromo, the towering Mount Semeru in the distance, and the distinct cone of Mount Batok. The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park landscape unfolds before your eyes, a layered panorama of mountains and valleys that seems to go on forever. It’s a truly humbling experience that words cannot fully capture.

Day 2: Exploring Bromo and The Road to Ijen

After the sunrise, the real exploration begins. We’ll descend to the Sea of Sand, a vast, flat expanse of volcanic ash that surrounds the volcanoes. Here, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to another planet. From the Sea of Sand, you’ll trek up to the active Bromo Crater. The final climb is a series of steps that lead you to the crater rim, where you can look down into the smoky, bubbling core of the volcano. The view from the rim is both thrilling and awe-inspiring, a true highlight of the trip.

But the adventure doesn’t end there. Our Hardtop Jeep will take us to two other incredible spots: the Bromo Savanna and the Whispering Sands. The Bromo Savanna, also known as Teletubbies Hill, is a stark contrast to the barren Sea of Sand. It’s a lush, green valley with rolling hills, offering a serene and picturesque landscape that is perfect for photos. Finally, we’ll visit the Whispering Sands, named for the unique sound the wind makes as it blows across the fine volcanic ash.

After our morning of exploration, we’ll have lunch and begin our journey to the next destination: Ijen Crater. The drive to Banyuwangi, at the foot of Mount Ijen, takes approximately four hours. Once we arrive, we’ll check into our hotel for some much-needed rest. You’ll have time to relax, have dinner at the hotel restaurant, and prepare for our late-night trek to see the famous blue fire.

Day 3: Ijen’s Blue Fire and a Relaxing Beach Finale

Our final day begins long before the sun rises. We’ll wake up just after midnight to prepare for our trek. From the hotel, it’s a short drive to Paltuding, the starting point for the hike to Ijen Crater. The 2-3 hour trek to the crater will take us through a cool forest under the stars, building anticipation for the moment we arrive.

We’ll reach the crater just in time to witness the legendary blue fire phenomenon. As the sulfur gases from inside the volcano ignite upon contact with the air, they create an ethereal blue flame that can be seen only in the darkness of the night. This is a truly unique and mystical sight that makes the trek worthwhile. We’ll spend a couple of hours marveling at the flames, capturing photos, and soaking in the atmosphere before the sun rises and the blue fire fades away.

After the sun rises, we’ll be greeted by the breathtaking view of Ijen’s acidic crater lake, a surreal turquoise body of water surrounded by jagged volcanic cliffs. We’ll then begin our descent back to Paltuding, where we’ll enjoy a well-deserved breakfast.

To round off our amazing adventure, we’ll make a final stop at the beautiful White Sands Beach of Situbondo. After two days of trekking up mountains and exploring volcanoes, this is the perfect place to relax, swim, and unwind. The soft white sand and clear blue water will be a welcome change of scenery. From there, we’ll begin our journey back to Surabaya, with an estimated arrival time in the early evening.
